The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture fosters the development of the province’s fishing and aquaculture industries. In 2007, the department launched a suite of programs under the Fishing Industry Renewal strategy intended to revitalize the fishing industry. The province also contributes to the expansion and sustainable management of the growing aquaculture industry through the development of extension services, infrastructure, and investment incentives. Fishing and aquaculture in Newfoundland and Labrador is a $1 billion industry.
