Fish Buyers Licensing for Food Establishment Licence Holders

 Licence Details

  • Buyers licences only available to companies which have been issued a Food Establishment Licence granted, under the Food Premises Regulations, by Service NL
  • Licence will only permit the purchase of those species authorized/identified on the Fish Buyers Licence from commercial fish harvesters licensed under the Fisheries Act (Canada)
  • Purchase of raw material must be made from the harvesters designated landing site and raw material must be in unprocessed form (whole or head-on-gutted or headed and gutted)
  • Purchase volumes are limited to 300 pounds (136 kilograms) per authorized species per week
  •  All fish purchased must be prepared for market for use by the end consumer at the buyer’s licensed food premises.
  • Sale of authorized fish to or purchase of fish for other affiliated or non-affiliated Food Establishments is prohibited
  • Licensed buyers must submit a Weekly Purchase Report to the department
  • Departmental inspection staff will conduct period audits to determine compliance

Application Guidelines      

  • All applicants must hold a valid Food Establishment Licence under the Food Premises Act, SNL 2013 c.F-21.1
  •  Fish Buyer’s Licence requests must be linked to each Food Establishment Licence held by the applicant
  • Any fish species to be purchased must be identified with the exceptions being live bi-valve mollucs (mussels, clams and scallops) and gastropods (whelk and periwinkles) which are prohibited.
  • Annual fee is $100.00 per licence applied for
