 Harvester's Guidelines for Project Proposals

These guidelines are intended to provide assistance with preparing proposals for funding under the Seafood Innovation and Transition Program with the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources.

  • Date submitted  

Please consider the following information when preparing your proposal.

Background Information:

  • How long have you have been involved in the fishing sector?
  • What species do you currently fish and size of quota?
  • What areas do you currently fish?  
  • How many crew do you employ?
  • Type and size of vessel?
  • Gear type currently used?
  • How did you hear about the new technology you wish to use?   
  • Is this new technology currently being used by other harvesters in your area? 

Project Description:

  • What do you want to accomplish through obtaining funding under the Seafood Innovation and Transition Program? For example, do you want to install new technology to prepare for the transition to groundfish fishery?  
  • How does the new technology prepare your operation for an expanded commercial codfish fishery
  • What are the expected project benefits?  For example, improved catch rates, higher revenues, lessen work load on crew members, safer operation, and improved quality, reduce bottom impact, and reduce fuel costs.
  • Where will the new technology be purchased?
  • Who will complete the installation?
  • Will the technology be tested during commercial fishery? 
  • Is training required? If so, who will train your crew? 
  • If successful, will this project benefit industry as a whole?

Project Schedule:

  • When will the proposed project start and finish?
  • When will the equipment be installed?  
  • When will you begin testing the technology?
  • Do you anticipate delays in project deliverables?

Budget:

Please provide the following;

  • Equipment Cost ( attach written quote from company if available)
  • Delivery Charges
  • Installation Costs: labor (including in-kind if installing yourself), additional material costs
  • If project includes testing of technology include: bait, crew time, and fuel costs.
  • Funding Sources:  FLR, harvester (cash and in-kind contribution) other sources.
